UNWANTED BULK ITEMS, TELEVISIONS AND HOUSEHOLD WASTE WELCOMED AT STREETS DEPARTMENT MOBILE WASTE DROP-OFF SITES
PHILADELPHIA (July 27) – The Philadelphia Streets Department will host six mobile sanitation convenience centers on Saturday, August 5th from 9 am to 5 pm allowing residents to drop off up to 12 bags of household waste, bulk items including furniture and appliances, and televisions. The department will be hosting the mobile sites at these locations on this date only.
The list of acceptable items includes: automotive tires (up to four), large metal household appliances (up to two), computers, monitors, televisions, latex or water-based paint cans that have been absorbed using kitty-litter or newspaper, mattresses (unwrapped or wrapped), box-springs, recycling materials and yard waste.
“This is an opportunity for residents to drop off items that cannot be placed curbside on their regular trash collection days,” said Streets Commissioner Carlton Williams. “We’ve heard residents concerns that locations of our Sanitation Convenience Centers make it challenging for some residents to drop off their waste. We hope that by bringing the Centers into more neighborhoods, we provide more access, discourage illegal dumping and encourage residents to collect rubbish from littered areas in their neighborhoods”.
In partnership with Philadelphia City Council, the Zero Waste and Litter Cabinet and spearheaded by the Streets Department Sanitation Division, this opportunity is available at select locations across the City.
Saturday, August 5th free mobile drop-off sites are:
- West Philadelphia – 49th & Parkside Avenue
- South Philadelphia – 2101 S. Broad Street – South Philadelphia High School
- North Philadelphia – 8th and Master Streets
- Northwest Philadelphia – Wayne Avenue & Logan Street (Parking Lot)
- Kensington – D Street & East Westmoreland Street
- Northeast – Pennway & St. Vincent Streets
Residents wishing to utilize the Mobile Sanitation Convenience Centers must show proof of residence as the Mobile Centers are free for City residents’ use only. Personal passenger vehicles/pickup trucks may be used, or commercial/rental trucks (i.e., U-Haul, Rider, Home Depot, etc.) carrying non-commercial loads, with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) under 6,000 pounds. Commercial contractors or vehicles carrying commercial loads are prohibited.
The department will be hosting the mobile sites at these locations on Saturday, August 5th only. Six non-mobile Sanitation Convenience Centers are open throughout the year, Monday thru Saturday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., except City holidays. Residents with proof of residency are welcomed to drop off household waste and other accepted materials with some restrictions. Those locations will remain open in conjunction with the mobile sites on August 5th.
