Please join the Philadelphia Youth Commission and the Millennial Advisory Commission on Tuesday, March 27 for a special #PHLYouthTalks conversation about the issue of gun violence in Philadelphia and how we can work together to address this epidemic. This youth-led event will build on the growing national movement to reduce gun violence and ensure that young people can learn and grow in safe spaces.

When: Tuesday, March 27, 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Where: South Philadelphia High School, 2101 S Broad St.

Who: Students, teachers, school administrators, parents, and elected officials are all encouraged to attend. This event is free.

About: This event will open with a Gun Laws 101 presentation to educate attendees about local, state and federal gun laws and opportunities for advocacy. Following this session, the PHLYouthTalk will break out into topic workshops that will seek youth voices to address these urgent questions:

Anti-violence Efforts & Safe Spaces

• How are we connecting employment opportunities and afterschool/out-of-school time programming to more youth in need? How does violence prevention fit into this conversation?

Mentorship

• How should we build and support credible mentors for violence intervention and prevention?

Trauma

• How can we better address trauma in young people’s lives that can stem from and/or lead to violence?

The event will feature multiple stations where youth can tell their story throughout the event, in written, artistic, visual or digital form.

This is a critical time for young people to be heard, across the city and across our country. We hope you will join us for this important conversation.
